This programme provides training in Simultaneous (booth) and Whispering Interpreting and Consecutive Interpreting as well as Sight Translation. It also introduces students to the use of interpreting equipment and to the various platforms available for RSI (Remote Simultaneous Interpretation) as well as to the various online resources available for interpreters to prepare for an event.<\/p>\n

Students will learn note-taking skills for Consecutive interpreting and learn how to develop their immediate memory, as well as practice listening and speaking at the same time in different languages.<\/p>\n
Students in the programme are invited to be observers\/trainees in a blind booth during various international events hosted by resident regional organisations in Trinidad or organised through the UWI-based CITB (Caribbean Interpreting and Translation Bureau).<\/p>\n
UWI is using state-of-the-art DIS interpreting equipment in built-in booths located at the Centre for Language Learning (CLL).<\/p>\n
Students are encouraged to attend multilingual events open to the public either on-site or online.<\/p>\n

Past graduates of this programme are working regularly as freelancers for various regional and international organisations such as UN agencies, the Association of Caribbean States (ACS), and The Caribbean Community and Common Market (CARICOM). Alumni have also set up their own companies and a few have interpreting as their main profession or continue practicing outside of a main form of employment.<\/p>\n
