Edalmi Pinelo is a dedicated environmental professional based in Belmopan, Belize, specializing in greenhouse gas inventory and climate change adaptation. She is newly appointed Chief Climate Change Officer within the Ministry of Sustainable Development, and Climate Change and previously held the position of Greenhouse Gas Inventory Officer.
Edalmi holds a Master’s degree in Disaster Risk Management and Climate Governance from the University of Isabel I in Spain, and a Bachelor’s degree in Natural Resource Management from the University of Belize. Her academic journey began with an Associate degree in Biology and Mathematics from Corozal Junior College.
Throughout her career, Edalmi has been involved in various initiatives aimed at enhancing Belize's capacity to manage climate change impacts. Her work includes leading efforts to update the national greenhouse gas inventory, supporting forest management initiatives, and coordinating training programs for key stakeholders in the forestry sector. Notably, she has contributed to significant publications related to Belize’s greenhouse gas emissions and forest reference levels.
In addition to her professional roles, Edalmi has been actively engaged in international climate negotiations, serving as the Coordinator for Transparency for the Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS) during multiple Conference of Parties (COP) events. Her expertise in data collection, technical analysis, and climate policy has been recognized through various certifications and participation in high-level climate conferences.
Fluent in English and proficient in Spanish, Edalmi continues to advocate for sustainable environmental practices and the integration of climate resilience into national policies.
