\n \n Success in Challenging Times! <\/a>\n <\/h2> \n\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\tAnsaar Ali places 2nd in the CAPSIM Challenge.\r\nAnsaar Ali, who participated in the Capstone Business Simuation Challenge in April placed 2nd, defeating international contenders from universities in Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, Hong Kong, India, Israel, Jamaica, Poland, Thailand, Turkey and the United States.\r\n\r\nAnsaar, first experienced Capstone Business Simulation in Professor Simon Fraser\u2019s class with hopes to run his own business one day. Learning about the challenges to run your own business, Ansaar decided to participate in the challenge.\r\n\u201cI chose to participate in the Capsim Challenge in order to have a better understanding of how the real world could be in terms of running an operating my own company. It helped increase my business knowledge by teaching me about how volatile and quick to change an industry can be, and how to deal with any changes and make decisions under all conditions.\u201d\r\nProfessor Fraser said the Capsim Challenge represented: \r\n\u201cAnother opportunity for students to practice their skills and grow as future managers. It also allows them to benchmark against great students from all over the world and to grow in confidence. Trinidad and Tobago has a population of 1.3 million so it\u2019s not often we get to compete on the international stage.\u201d\r\n\r\nProfessor Fraser said simulations taught students the challenge of running an overall business. \u201cIn many management programmes students learn \u201cabout\u201d management,\u201d he said. \u201cCapsim allows them to get a sense of what it feels like to actually manage an enterprise where you have to live with the consequences of your decisions.\u201d\r\nDuring a semester of disruption in a world gripped by pandemic, lockdowns and restrictions, Ansaar Ali from the University of the West Indies has demonstrated his capacity to succeed under pressure, and to make sound business decisions in the midst of uncertainty.\u00a0\r\n\r\nAnsaar plans to graduate in Management Studies this year. \n \n Events in Sports Management <\/a>\n <\/h2> \n\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\tMarch 2016\r\nMarch 1st marked the beginning of the outreach to potential students from Barbados to join the Postgraduate Diploma (Pg. Dip.) Sports Management Programme at the UWI St. Augustine Campus. Ms. Charisse Bacchus represented the Sports Management discipline at the UWI Career Fair, Cave Hill, as well as on television and radio programmes on the island.\r\n\u00a0\r\n\r\nCharisse Bacchus meets with interested students\r\nMs. Bacchus noted the enthusiasm of persons who attended the Sports Management booth, noting also their desire for more information. The sight of this desire to pursue the postgraduate diploma is certainly important as Ms. Bacchus noted that student athletes do not readily consider Sports Science as a career, due particularly to societal misconceptions of its validity and potential.\r\n\r\n\r\nCharisse Bacchus speaks at the CBC Barbados\r\nThe UWI St. Augustine had the pleasure of speaking both on the Caribbean Broadcasting Corporation, Barbados' radio and television programmes; \"Talk Back\", \"Good Morning Barbados\", \"Football Fiesta\" and \"The Mix\". This allowed Ms. Bacchus to speak not only on the postgraduate diploma but on issues faced by women in sports, and current events in football and cricket, showing the relevance of the programme to the passions of Caribbean people today.\r\n\r\n\r\nCharisse Bacchus speaks with Teisha Hinds and Amanda Reifer on issues faced by women in sport\r\nIn the wake of this outreach, the Sports Management discipline looks forward to a further increase in interest in the Pg Dip as men and women begin to see the value of Sports Management as a career and begin to break inaccurate, traditional limitations placed on the field.\r\nMay 2012\r\nMay 29 -\u00a0Sports students receive awards\r\n\r\n2nd cohort UWI\/FIFA\/CIES Post Graduate Diploma students\r\n\r\nOn 29th May the Department of Management Studies awarded UWI\/FIFA\/CIES Diplomas to the first and second cohort of students within its Post Graduate Sports Management Programme at a special ceremony held at the Learning Resource Centre.\r\n1st and 2nd cohort students graduated after studying the foundations of sport management with a particular emphasis on the realities of the Caribbean region. Lectures were supplemented with special sessions from both local and international speakers.\r\nProf. Clement Sankat, Pro Vice Chancellor and Principal of The UWI;\u00a0 Dr. Hamid Ghany, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Dr. Keith Clifford, Chairman of the First Citizens Sports Foundation, stressed the vital role that sport plays in Caribbean society and the need to give qualitative support at management level. Trinidad and Tobago Olympic Committee), John Felix, Roger Pierre and Kion Williams.\r\nThe UWI\/FIFA\/CIES Post Graduate Diploma commenced in January 2010 following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding the previous year at the St. Augustine Campus and caters to the needs of individuals whose undergraduate training is in areas other than sports management and desire to branch into a professional career in sports management.\r\n\r\nArts in Action re-enacts scenes from the Crawford and Boldon races.\r\nThe UWI through its Department of Management Studies therefore has the remit of offering the Diploma Programme to candidates within the English Speaking Caribbean.
