SPECIAL DEGREES<\/strong> or specialization programmes provide the foundation required for graduates to be functionally competent in the broad field of management. With a special degree, students do at least 15 of the 20 courses required at Levels II and III of the degree programme in subjects offered by the Department. The Department of Management Studies currently offer special degrees in Accounting,<\/a> International Tourism Management<\/a>, Insurance and Risk Management,<\/a> Leadership and Management<\/a>, Sports Management,<\/a> Management Studies<\/a>, and Banking and Finance.<\/a><\/p>\n MAJORS<\/strong> require students to do 10 of 20 courses required at Levels II and III from the Department. Although the number of core courses covered is less than that of the specialization, the major provides the flexibility to choose a variety of other courses. The Department currently offers a major in Management Studies.<\/a><\/p>\n MINORS<\/strong> require students to do five Level II and III courses in one disciplinary area of Management, thereby providing depth of knowledge in that particular field of Management. It should be noted that minors, usually accompany a major, or a major and another minor. Minors are offered in Accounting,<\/font><\/a> Insurance and Risk Management,<\/a> Human Resource Management<\/a>, Management Information Systems<\/a>, Marketing<\/a>, Finance,<\/a> Management Studies<\/a>,<\/a> Tourism Management <\/a>and Sports Management<\/a>.<\/p>\n Students enrolled in any degree programme within the Department of Management Studies are only able to declare <\/strong>(have it appear as a minor on your transcript) minors which do not require the same core courses as their major.<\/p>\n Students may however, pursue the courses and gain credits included in other minors for example, Minor in Marketing and Human Resource Management, but will NOT<\/strong> be able to DECLARE these as minors.<\/p>\n Students of the Department are free to pursue minors out of the Department or Faculty, as long as appropriate approval<\/strong> has been obtained. Minors are usually declared in Semester 2 of Final Year and declaration forms are available from the Faculty of Social Sciences, Administration Building.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/h3>\n
