On 29th May the Department of Management Studies awarded UWI\/FIFA\/CIES Diplomas to the first and second cohort of students within its Post Graduate Sports Management Programme at a special ceremony held at the Learning Resource Centre.<\/p>\n
1st and 2nd cohort students graduated after studying the foundations of sport management with a particular emphasis on the realities of the Caribbean region. Lectures were supplemented with special sessions from both local and international speakers.<\/p>\n
Prof. Clement Sankat, Pro Vice Chancellor and Principal of The UWI;\u00a0 Dr. Hamid Ghany, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Dr. Keith Clifford, Chairman of the First Citizens Sports Foundation, stressed the vital role that sport plays in Caribbean society and the need to give qualitative support at management level. The UWI \/ FIFA \/ CIES Postgraduates have now been asked to contribute to the development of their region by investing their knowledge in sports organizations as quickly as possible.<\/p>\n

The sight of this desire to pursue the postgraduate diploma is certainly important as Ms. Bacchus noted that student athletes do not readily consider Sports Science as a career, due particularly to societal misconceptions of its validity and potential.<\/p>\r\n The UWI St. Augustine had the pleasure of speaking both on the Caribbean Broadcasting Corporation, Barbados' radio and television programmes; \"Talk Back\", \"Good Morning Barbados\", \"Football Fiesta\" and \"The Mix\". This allowed Ms. Bacchus to speak not only on the postgraduate diploma but on issues faced by women in sports, and current events in football and cricket, showing the relevance of the programme to the passions of Caribbean people today.<\/p>\r\n In the wake of this outreach, the Sports Management discipline looks forward to a further increase in interest in the Pg Dip as men and women begin to see the value of Sports Management as a career and begin to break inaccurate, traditional limitations placed on the field.<\/p>\r\n May 2012<\/strong><\/p>\r\n May 29 -\u00a0Sports students receive awards<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\r\n 2nd cohort UWI\/FIFA\/CIES Post Graduate Diploma students<\/p>\r\n On 29th May the Department of Management Studies awarded UWI\/FIFA\/CIES Diplomas to the first and second cohort of students within its Post Graduate Sports Management Programme at a special ceremony held at the Learning Resource Centre.<\/p>\r\n 1st and 2nd cohort students graduated after studying the foundations of sport management with a particular emphasis on the realities of the Caribbean region. Lectures were supplemented with special sessions from both local and international speakers.<\/p>\r\n Prof. Clement Sankat, Pro Vice Chancellor and Principal of The UWI;\u00a0 Dr. Hamid Ghany, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Dr. Keith Clifford, Chairman of the First Citizens Sports Foundation, stressed the vital role that sport plays in Caribbean society and the need to give qualitative support at management level.
