Physics Department, dubbed the "Psi-Star", participated in the recently concluded IDC Cricket 10-over Tournament.

Congrats to all that participated and fun was had by all!!



Physics Department graduate Zahra Gomes wins prestigious Commonwealth Rhodes Scholarship.

Our own Zahra Gomes beat out six candidates to win the Commonwealth Rhodes Scholarship at Government House, Barbados. Gomes said that "Cosmology could have a great impact on the Caribbean and, as it is not currently widely studied, the goal was to expand research in the science in the region." Congratulations to our own Zahra Gomes and we wish her full success in her future!

Congratulations to our 2015 Ph.D graduates!

Three of our postgraduate candidates recently graduated with their Doctorate in Philosophy (Ph.D) at the recently held UWI Gaduation Ceremony at St. Augustine. Dr. Xsitaaz Chadee, Dr. Andrea Joseph, Dr. Randy Koon Koon.

Department of Physics was part of the FST Open Week held for prospective students. On display were various experiments and equipment used by both undergraduate and postgraduate candidates. It was indeed an eye-opening view of Physics to many students who were very interested by its practical applications!

Workshop on Mini-Projects for Deployment of Smart Grid Technology, UWI. (2nd April 2015)

The Department recently held a SmartGrid workshop to build awareness & benefits of its deployment in T&T. The workshop also served as a platform to assist teachers at the CAPE Level in areas such as Electronics, Computer & Physics for developing projects for relevant students.

Trailing a Comet: A Billion Kilometre trip by the Rosetta Space Mission.

Professor H. Lehto from the Tuorla Observatory (Finland) is one of the scientists who performed the first ever landing of a European Space Agency probe Philae on a comet!! The Department of Physics hosted a seminar with Prof. Lehto about this groundbreaking space mission.
