Minimum Qualification/ Experience

The successful candidate must possess a PhD in Chemical Engineering with a blend of academic, research and industrial experience; proven leadership experience; an excellent track record in teaching within the broad field of Chemical Engineering; a strong international scholarly reputation for Chemical Engineering research; demonstrated ability to lead related research within the Department and to win substantial external research funding. 

Considerable related academic and professional experience, including:

  • Outstanding teaching and research at the tertiary level.

  • A track record of distinguished, original and innovative work; high quality publications in peer-reviewed international journals

  • Outstanding success in and wide recognition of professional activities

  • Corporate membership in a reputable professional institution

  • Active engagement in industry, with considerable Industry experience as a distinguished Chemical Engineer

  • Proven success in grant applications


Areas of Specialization

The Department invites applications from candidates with research specialisations that will enhance its current activities. Areas of specialisation include, inter alia:

  • Energy Studies

  • Process Control, Simulation and Optimization

  • Multiphase Transport and Processing

  • Corrosion Engineering

Complementary expertise in chemical engineering thermodynamics, reaction engineering, materials engineering and process safety will be an advantage.


Specific Responsibilities

The successful applicant will join a team of academic, technical and administrative staff in the fulfillment of the formal teaching, continuing education, research and industry support service programmes offered by the Department to:

  • Teach in and provide other academic support to the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

  • Contribute to the Department’s R&D portfolio through a mix of academic publications in the focus areas mentioned and through impactful development and industry support activities in Chemical Engineering

  • Represent the Department at various national, regional and international workshops, conferences and seminars.

  • Provide administrative assistance.
