Qualification and Experience

The successful candidate must possess a PhD in Food Science and Technology, with considerable experience with teaching and supervision, especially at the Post Graduate Level (MSc, MPhil and PhD) and wide exposure to all areas of Food Technology. The candidate’s records should demonstrate:

  •  Outstanding teaching and research at the tertiary level
  • A track record of distinguished, original and innovative work; high quality publications in peer-reviewed international journals

  • Outstanding success in and wide recognition of professional activities

  • Corporate membership in a reputable professional institution

  • Active engagement in industry, with considerable industry experience

  • Proven success in grant applications

  • Strong stakeholder linkages (industry and universities)


Further consideration will be given to candidates with specialization in one or more of the following areas:

  • Food Chemistry
  • Preservation and Processing of Meats, Poultry, Fruits and Vegetables


Special Responsibilities

  • Teaching in the areas of Food Chemistry and Preservation and Processing of Meats, Poultry, Fruits and Vegetables

  • Interfacing with all stakeholders and generating funding for the Unit

  • Engaging in innovative activities in Food Science Technology

  • Commercializing lab and technical services

  • Achieving programme accreditation


Personal Attributes

The Department places high priority on individuals of integrity who can work well in a team and student friendly environment. Candidates should also possess good communication and interpersonal skills. A good command of both oral and written English is essential. Candidates must also be able to:

  • Interact positively with academic and support staff within the Unit and its host Department of Chemical Engineering

  • Effectively interface with the Food Industry and other relevant stakeholders within the Caribbean Region

  • Provide administrative and mentoring support
