Qualifications and Experience


The successful candidate must possess a DVM or equivalent with either of the following:
1. PhD or
2. MSc with Board certification in Avian/Exotics Medicine

Candidates should also possess:

  • At least three (3) years teaching and clinical experience in Avian/Exotics practice
  • A good record of research and publications in reputable, peer-reviewed journals
  • Evidence of prior success in the ability to provide clinical service to referral cases
  • Evidence of prior success in supervising personnel, hospitalized cases and managing resident animals

Candidates with the following would have an advantage:

  • Specialized training/Certificate in an area in Poultry Medicine
  • Evidence of completion of residency training programme in Avian/Exotics Medicine
  • An acceptable level of creative output (e.g. patents, grants)
  • Competence in developing curricula in Veterinary Medicine

The following would be considered assets:

  • Experience in research with extramural funding
  • Experience in postgraduate research supervision
  • Competence in teaching in related areas other than area of expertise

Special Responsibilities

  • Teaching undergraduate clinical medicine and contributing to pre-clinical course development
  • Participating in Problem Based Learning (PBL)
  • Conducting research and seeking extramural funding
  • Engaging in Veterinary School Committees and student support activities
  • Providing clinical service to referral cases
  • Supervising postgraduate research and mentoring junior faculty
  • Overseeing the welfare of:
            o Clinical cases warded at the School of Veterinary Medicine (SVM)
            o The animals housed at the SVM
  • Supervising staff responsible for all in-house animals
  • Contributing significantly to curriculum development
