Qualifications and Experience


The successful candidate must possess a PhD or equivalent from a recognized university, which
should be in Actuarial Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Mathematical Finance or a closely related
field.

Candidates should also possess:

  • A good record of research and publications in reputable, peer-reviewed journals which should be evident of a strong research interest in Actuarial Science
  • Proficiency in curriculum development and review

 

Candidates with the following would have an advantage:

  • An Associateship or Fellowship qualification from a recognised professional actuarial organisation such as Society of Actuaries, Casualty Actuarial Society, Canadian Institute of Actuaries, Institute and Faculty of Actuaries - UK or Actuaries Institute of Australia
  • Teaching experience at the tertiary level
  • Supervision of projects at the undergraduate level
  • Evidence of prior success in mentoring students

 

The following would be considered assets:

  • Certification in teaching at the tertiary level
  • Professional actuarial experience
  • Evidence of prior success in attracting external research funding
  • Familiarity with online learning tools and resources
  • Use of machine learning based solutions and analyses

 

Special Responsibilities

  • Teaching undergraduate courses in Actuarial Science and closely related subjects such as Probability and Statistics
  • Engaging in individual and collaborative research, curriculum development, academic advising
  • Supervising research students
  • Forming liaisons with international actuarial organizations and public and private sector stakeholders
