Qualifications and Experience


The successful candidate must possess a PhD from a recognized university, which should be in
Chemical Engineering or a closely related field, with focuses in Biochemical Engineering and
Material Science.

Candidates should also possess:

  • Teaching experience at the tertiary level
  • A good record of research and publications in reputable, peer-reviewed journals
  • Proficiency in at least two (2) of the following areas:

            o  Biochemical Engineering
            o  Material Science
            o  Sustainability
            o  Design of Experiments Methodology (RSM)

 

Candidates with the following would have an advantage:

  • PhD in Biochemical Reaction Engineering
  • Teaching and supervision of student design and research projects at MSc level
  • Experience in curriculum development
  • Competence in Advanced Biochemical Reaction Engineering

 

The following would be considered assets:

  • Industry experience
  • Evidence of prior success in obtaining research grant funding
  • Evidence of prior success in cross collaborative research
  • Good knowledge of material characterization techniques

 

Special Responsibilities

  • Teaching undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Chemical Engineering
  • Supervising postgraduate (MSc, MPhil and PhD) student projects and mentoring of students
  • Developing well recognized and independent research programmes capable of attracting external funding in their area of expertise
  • Engaging with local, regional and international stakeholders, other Departments and academic institutions and Faculty through collaborative research
  • Providing ongoing revision of the curriculum to keep abreast of development and innovation in the area of expertise
  • Developing professional short courses to respond to the changes within the industry specifically focusing on local and regional needs
  • Serving on Committees at the Department, Faculty and University levels

  • Develop students’ appreciation and passion for the study of Chemical Engineering
