Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Mechanic (Grade 2)


Division of Facilities Management

Applications are invited for the post of Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Mechanic (Grade 2) in the Division of Facilities Management.

Duties of the post include:

1. Assisting with planning, coordinating, and supervising field installation, and preventative maintenance and repair exercises to the University’s Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) equipment.

2. Performing preventative maintenance scheduling, coordination and supervision for HVAC.

3. Assisting with supervising and quality control for HVAC and other mechanical system installations.

4. Responsible for conducting site visits and coordination with Faculties and units for logical planning of installation projects.

5. Assisting the Facilities Manager with the planning of PM schedules and gathering of technical data for the compilation of tender documents.

6. Assisting with pretender site visits and technical evaluation of tenders for procurement of new HVAC equipment.

7. Performing any other duties as may be assigned by the Facilities Manager and the Director, Division of Facilities Management.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Applicants should be familiar with the University’s mission, structure, policies and procedures. Applicants should have knowledge of air conditioning and refrigeration and the planning of preventative maintenance schedules for HVAC equipment. Applicants must possess technical knowledge and skills in the installation, repairs and maintenance of HVAC equipment and in the use of electrical reading and testing equipment, air flow and temperature reading and logging equipment. Applicants must possess the ability to interpret and read blueprints and drawings and knowledge of control systems for electromechanical equipment. The successful applicant should have a working understanding of the OSH Act (2004 amended 2006). Applicants must be willing to work flexible hours including weekends/public holidays when required.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must possess a relevant Certificate or higher in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration from a recognized institution and must possess at least three (3) G.C.E ‘O’ Levels or CXC/CSEC (General I, II or III from 1998) including English or should be enrolled in or successfully completed The UWI Ancillary Staff Training Programme.

 

EXPERIENCE

Candidates must possess a minimum of three (3) years of relevant work experience in the area of facility maintenance and or HAVC maintenance.

Salary will be fixed in accordance with Grade 2 of the salary scale.
