The Faculty of Law, 2020/2021 Annual Prize Award Ceremony

Due to COVID-19 restrictions against large gatherings in T&T, the Faculty of Law, UWI St. Augustine Campus will be holding its annual Virtual Prize Award Ceremony on Friday 28 January 2022 via this webpage.

As is custom, this Annual ceremony aims to recognize and honour those top performing students at the Undergraduate and Post-graduate level to encourage high academic achievement. The theme for this year’s ceremony is titled “The only time success comes before hard work is in the dictionary”. The feature address will be delivered by Ms. Roberta Clarke. Ms. Clarke is an activist for social justice and gender equality and is a Commissioner of the Inter-American Commission for Human Rights for the period 2022-2025. She is also the Chair, of the Harassment Committee of the Caribbean Court of Justice, the President of the Coalition against Domestic Violence, Trinidad and Tobago and the Chair of the Barbados Population Commission. She sits on a number of Boards including currently, the Interim Board of Directors for the Nobel Women’s Initiative. 

She has also led  UN Women Regional Offices in East and Southern Africa, Libya, Asia and the Pacific, and the Caribbean.  Until December 2021, she was the Chair, Executive Committee, International Commission of Jurists. Prior to her career at the United Nations, she practiced as a lawyer in Trinidad and Tobago and also worked with the Caribbean Association for Feminist Research and Action. 

The packed programme will involve, not only the award of prizes to those recipients but the Deans Welcome, Entertainment segments and culminate with a Virtual Toast.
