Conference on First Peoples

“To commemorate the start of Heritage week, The Faculty of Law, UWI, St. Augustine Campus in partnership with the Santa Rosa First Peoples held a virtual conference titled “Our First Peoples: leading us toward environmentally sound and sustainable communities” .

This was streamed live on the UWI St. Augustine Facebook page on Monday 12th October, 2020 from 9-11am. The featured address was delivered by Dr. Maximillian Forte (Professor of Anthropology the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Concordia university in Montreal Canada).

Presentations were made by Senator the Honorable Minister of Agriculture, Land & Fisheries– Clarence Rambharat; Chief of the Santa Rosa First People’s Community- Chief Ricardo Bharath Hernandez; Professor Rose Marie Belle Antoine (Dean of the Faculty of Law, UWI St. Augustine & Former Rapporteur – Indigenous Peoples, IACHR) as well as Leaders from Indigenous Groups in Latin America and the Caribbean.
