The Caribbean Energy Policy, Societies & Law Conference

The Faculty of Law and the Institute of gender and Development Studies of the UWI St Augustine Campus in collaboration with the University of Houston, Graduate Certificate in Global Energy Development and Sustainability held the Caribbean Energy, Societies and Law Conference on October 4th 2018 at the University Inn and Conference Centre. The conference was built upon the proposed bilateral MOU to be entered into by the two Universities, the University of Houston and the UWI. The general goal was to strengthen the ties of collaboration between the Universities and recognizing the benefits to be gained through joint conferences by promoting scholarly activities, fostering knowledge, sharing and strengthening the international recognition and global outreach. Speakers included Mr. Anthony Paul (Energy and Strategy Adviser); Professor Ramnanan Krishnamoorti (Chief Energy officer at the University of Houston); Mr. Fisoye Delano (President and Chief Executive Officer of Delphi Ventura Group LLC); Dr. Julian Cardenas Garcia (Visiting Professor of Law at the University Of Houston Law Centre); Dr. Ryan Jobson (University of Chicago); Mrs. Indira Rampaul-Cheddie 9Senior State Counsel, Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries Trinidad & Tobago) ; Dr. hector Edwards (Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Guyana) and Mrs. Alicia Elias-Roberts (Deputy Dean at the Faculty of law, UWI, St. Augustine).

Following the conference, a public lecture was held at the Hilton Hotel and Conference Centre (Flamingo Room) on Friday 5th October 2018 from 7-8pm featuring Dr. David Hughes (Professor of Anthropology and Vice President of Rutgers AAUP-AFT faculty Union Rutgers University) on the topic Victim and Perpetrator: The Contradictory Position of Southern Caribbean Oil States.

Both were well attended and well received from participants.
