State should acquire land rights for oil and gas and compensate the private owners, and environmental regulations should be strengthened and implemented in this sector: these were among the many suggestions that surfaced from discussions involving leading legal practitioners and energy specialist at the inaugural Oil and Gas conference. Among the distinguished presenters were the Minister of Energy and Energy Affairs, Senator the Hon. Kevin Ramnarine, Professor Peter Cameron, Director, Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law &amp; Policy; Co-Director, International Energy Arbitration Centre, University of Dundee, Professor Jacqueline Weaver, A.A. White Professor of Law and Interim Director of the Environment, Energy and Natural Resource Center at the University of Houston Law Centre, and Mr. Daniel J. Fitzwilliam, Attorney-at-law, Fitzwilliam, Stone, Furness-Smith &amp; Morgan, Trinidad and Tobago. Mrs Alicia Elias-Roberts, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Law chaired the conference. Dean of the Faculty of Law, Professor Rose-Marie Belle Antoine, highlighted the introduction of the regions first course in oil and gas law which was developed and is being lectured by Mrs Alicia Elias-Roberts.
