Professor Vincent Gerald Porfirio, Assistant Dean of Students, English Faculty of The Sage Colleges, Sage College of Albany, Albany New York, will present a seminar titled "Women and Media: Gender, Consumerism, & Marketing."This event is being hosted by The Institute of Gender & Development Studies and will take place on November 17^th, 2009, at 12 noon in the IGDS Seminar Room.

Professor Porfirios' seminar will be based on research undertaken in South Africa on the ways in which women utilize and negotiate branded images within a highly consumerist society. The presentation uses different mediums, including film, to explore the gendered nature of this interface and to explore the differences of experience within such a society for different groups of women.
