UWI School of Education Literacy Conference 2010: Call for Presentations

The UWI School of Education Literacy Conference 2010, themed Making literacy improvement a reality for adolescents and at risk youths (ages 13-18), is being held on March 11th-12th, 2010, at the Mona Visitors Lodge on The UWI Mona Campus.  

The UWI School of Education is the hub of literacy research and evidence-based literacy practice in the Caribbean. The SOE literacy conference is the premier regional forum for dissemination of research findings, exploration of issues and initiatives that contribute to or mitigate literacy improvement. This Biennial Conference attracts participants from the Caribbean, North America and Europe. This year we are targeting one fourth of the population as international participants/attendees.

The conference will be held at the Mona Visitors Lodge on The UWI (Mona) Campus.

Submission of proposals: January 15, 2009

Notification of acceptance: January 30, 2010

Registration: February 5, 2010

Electronic Papers/Presentations Due: February 12, 2010

Conference: March 11-12, 2010

Conference Sub-Themes:

  • Literacy and social justice
  • Best practices - assessment/evaluation of literacy performance
  • Literacy across the curriculum
  • New literacies
  • Re-engineering teacher education for improvement of literacy
  • Interventions, initiatives and innovations in literacy development
  • Recovering at-risk youths 

Panel presenters will have 15 minutes and workshops will last for 90 minutes.
