The UWI Department of Liberal Arts collaborates with the Institute of Gender and Development Studies (IGDS), to host the New Geographies: Studies in Postcoloniality and Globalization Conference, from 24th-26th March, 2011. The New Geographies Conference works with a more flexible understanding of postcolonial studies which can reveal new perspectives on the ideological, political and socio-cultural dimensions of the contemporary world order.
The keynote speakers at the conference include Professor Arjun Appadurai, Senior Advisor for Global Initiatives at The New School, New York City; and Gisèle Pineau, acclaimed author. There will also be film screenings by Guy DesLauriers and Professor Patricia Mohammed, followed by a post-screening Q&A session.
