Event Date(s): 30/04/2011

Location: Daaga Auditorium

The Music Unit of the Department of the Creative and Festival Arts (DCFA) presents the final concert of its semester-long Music Series, "Music of the Diaspora," on Saturday 30th April, 2011, at 8 pm, at the Daaga Auditorium. The Music Unit is proud to offer another installment of its multicultural offerings, which will feature three ensembles: the Indian Classical Music Ensemble, the Intermediate Steelband Ensemble and the Caribbean Contemporary Jazz Workshop.

The Indian Classical Music Ensemble, directed by Satnarine Baboolal, will showcase students playing instruments which have been recently been donated to the Department by the Indian Government and friends of music. The Intermediate Ensemble, directed by Deryck Nurse, who is also the classical music director of the Neal and Massy All Stars Steel Orchestra, will perform works drawn from the classical tradition, Latin and calypso arrangements. The popular Contemporary Workshop, conducted by Senior Superintendent Enrique Moore, will showcase students in small and large groups playing well-known standards and iconic Caribbean music.

Tickets cost $50 and will be available at the door on the evening of the show.
