The Rhodes Scholarship Training Session

Event Date(s): 14/05/2011

Location: Institute of Critical Thinking (upstairs CLL)

The Office of the Deputy Principal and the Student Advisory Services (SAS) will host a Rhodes Scholarship Training Session on Saturday 14th May 2011, at the Institute of Critical Thinking (upstairs CLL) from 9:30am to 1:30pm.

This session is opened to UWI undergraduate students aged 25 and under and is aimed at making students aware of this scholarship opportunity and also to assist with the application process.

The Rhodes Scholarships are postgraduate awards supporting exceptional all-round students from diverse countries to study at the University of Oxford. It is the oldest and perhaps the most prestigious international scholarship program in the world. Each year, 83 Rhodes Scholars are selected from 14 countries or groupings of countries around the world to be part of the class. Trinidad and Tobago has had approximately 13 scholars between 1962 and 2011, with the last scholar in 2003.

UWI students wishing to apply for Rhodes Scholarships should have a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.6 or higher.

The deadline for submission of applications for this year is September 2011.

The training session on Saturday 14th May will help ensure that interested students understand clearly what is required to apply. There will be presentations by Rhodes Scholars on preparing personal statements, preparing recommendation letters and preparing for the interview to name a few.

To book a spot at the training session, email lynette.joseph-brown@sta.uwi.edu or deputy.principal@sta.uwi.edu or call (868) 662 2002 ext 4316 or 2184.
