All staff and students involved or interested in community service, community engagement and volunteer or outreach programmes are invited to the 2nd Annual Symposium on Student Engagement: Developing Social Responsibility. The symposium, which will be held at the Institute of Critical Thinking on 12th March 2012, from 9 am to 4.30 pm, is hosted by The University of the West Indies’ Student Advisory Services in collaboration with the Office of the Deputy Principal. The University of Trinidad and Tobago and the University of Louisville are also assisting with the planning and implementation of this event.
Service Learning and Community Engagement help to create graduates who are not only academically sound but also civic-minded. Community Engagement brings out the best in graduates by moving students beyond the classroom to provide real-world settings for learning and opportunities for giving back to society. It is also an area for research which is receiving increasing attention from Faculty in Universities around the world.
Faculty members who are interested in co-presenting in any of the areas should indicate their interest by contacting Shilohna.phillanders@sta.uwi.edu or Chandar.supersad@sta.uwi.edu.
