This year, Trinidad and Tobago marks the 50^th anniversary of the introduction of sign language to the nation and UWI’s Department of Modern Languages and Linguistics commemorates the occasion with a seminar, titled ‘Celebrating 50 years of Trinidad and Tobago Sign Language’. This event is carded for Wednesday 5^th December, from 10am-1pm, at the School of Education Auditorium.

The seminar aims to educate the public about this under-recognised language and raise awareness of the challenges this lack of knowledge poses to T&T’s hearing impaired population.   

Feature speakers include:

1. Bryan Rodrigues, President of the Deaf Empowerment Organisation of Trinidad and Tobago,
2. Qushiba La Fleur, President of WeCare Deaf Support Network,
3. Ben Braithwaite, Lecturer in Linguistics, UWI
