Celebrating 50 years of Trinidad and Tobago Sign Language

This year, Trinidad and Tobago marks the 50th anniversary of the introduction of sign language to the nation and UWI’s Department of Modern Languages and Linguistics commemorates the occasion with a seminar, titled ‘Celebrating 50 years of Trinidad and Tobago Sign Language’. This event is carded for Wednesday 5th December, from 10am-1pm, at the School of Education Auditorium.

The seminar aims to educate the public about this under-recognised language and raise awareness of the challenges this lack of knowledge poses to T&T’s hearing impaired population.   

Feature speakers include:

  1. Bryan Rodrigues, President of the Deaf Empowerment Organisation of Trinidad and Tobago,
  2. Qushiba La Fleur, President of WeCare Deaf Support Network,
  3. Ben Braithwaite, Lecturer in Linguistics, UWI
