The Department of Modern Languages and Linguistics invites the public to a lecture by Dr. Fátima Marinho, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Arts at the Universidade do Porto, Portugal. Dr Marinho’s lecture, titled “The Past: A Fictional Construction?”  on Tuesday January 29, from 3pm to 5pm, at the CLL Lecture Room.

Professor Marinho was born in Porto. She graduated in Romance Languages from Faculty of the Arts and Humanities of the University of Porto, where she has taught 19^th and 20^thcentury Portuguese literature since 1976. In 1987, she obtained her Doctorate with a thesis on Surrealism in Portugal. She is now Full Professor and Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities. In recent years, she has focused on the Portuguese historical novel of 19th and 20th centuries.
