Blended Learning: An Introduction to Emerging Technologies in Education

The Instructional Development Unit (IDU) hosts a workshop entitled “Blended Learning: An Introduction To Emerging Technologies In Education” at The School of Education, Computer Lab, Room 217 from 9:00am to 2:00pm.

Workshop Topics include:

- What are emerging technologies in education?

- Emerging technologies in our educational context

- Personal Learning Networks (PLN): Ning (Classroom 2.0, English Companion)

- Content Sharing Networks: Delicious, Slide Share, Prezi, Author Stream, Digg- Blogs: Blogger

- Wikis: PB Wikis

- Open Courseware: Carnegie Mellon University; MIT

According to the National Institute for Literacy in the United States, emerging technologies refer to any contemporary software (programs, applications) and hardware (gadgets and devices) that have undergone recent fundamental transformation. Within education, these modern or upcoming tools are strategically and effectively used to enhance the teaching and learning experience. This workshop introduces participants to a range of emerging technology tools and will also illustrate the ways in which these tools can be used, in the context of the UWI St. Augustine campus, to effectively enhance teaching and learning.
