Event Date(s): 21/03/2013 - 22/03/2013
Location: Hyatt Regency and Magdalena Grand Resort
The Down Syndrome Family Network (DSFN) will hold its second annual World Down Syndrome Day Conference on March 21st at the Hyatt Regency in Trinidad and March 22nd and at Magdalena Grand Resort in Tobago.
March 21st marks the 8th anniversary of World Down Syndrome Day recognized by the international Down syndrome community and the second anniversary since sanctioned by United Nations. The date (3/21) is significant, as it represents the three copies of chromosome 21 which is unique to persons with Down syndrome.
In keeping with this year’s World Down Syndrome Day theme: "Right to Work", the DSFN conference theme is “Inclusion is Everyone’s Right”. As such, DSFN is honoured to have as its keynote speaker international Down syndrome self-advocate and open water swimmer, Karen Gaffney. Also joining the conference as a guest speaker is Julie Harmon, a Board member of the National Down Syndrome Congress (USA), and mother of two boys with Down syndrome.
The conference is open to persons of all abilities, their families, caregivers, educators and other professionals.
