No Talk, All Action. Launch a Startup in 54 hours

The University of the West Indies (UWI) St Augustine, in collaboration with the Faculty of Engineering & the Engineering Students Society will host the first Startup Weekend Trinidad from May 22 to 24 at the JFK Auditorium. The event aims to contribute in a significant and meaningful way to the country’s drive towards entrepreneurship and competitiveness; inspire, educate and empower individuals, teams and communities by providing hands-on experience through real-time entrepreneurial activity to software developers, designers, marketers, product managers and startup enthusiasts and to initiate aspiring entrepreneurs in the use and practice of lean methodologies when starting their businesses.

Startup Weekend is an organization with global presence that is sponsored by the Kauffman Foundation and has Google and Microsoft as its partners. A team of local organizers led by the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering is collaborating with Startup Weekend’s Head Office in Seattle, U.S.A. to ensure that the Trinidad and Tobago version stays true to the spirit and rigour of the franchise that has been replicated across 300 cities and in over 100 countries. It is an opportunity for people with innovative ideas to explore how those ideas can be taken to market to eventually become lucrative businesses. The event is open to the public and targets students, entrepreneurs and those involved in business enterprise as well as designers.

The event boasts of two distinct panels of judges and coaches. The confirmed judges include Prof. Denise Thompson, Kerwyn Valley, Kama Maharaj and Brian Mac Farlene. The confirmed coaches include Georgina Terry, Odeka O’Neil, Derrick Lewis, Lesley-Ann Noel, Indera Sagewan-Alli and Simon Fraser.

Early Bird Tickets at TT$ 500 are available until April 1, 2013.
