The University Singers celebrates is 50th Anniversary this year. The Year long celebrations will include special concerts and workshops at the Mona Campus, throughout the Caribbean and outside of the Caribbean region. There will be 2 concerts at Queen's Hall starting at 8:00 p.m. on Friday 11th and Saturday 12th. Tickets cost $100.00 with a 10% discount for patrons of Queen's Hall. The Box Office will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. daily. This performance is the final stop on the Singers’ 50th Anniversary Caribbean Tour.
Their two-day visit will include lecture demonstrations/workshops at Queen’s Hall and at the auditorium of the UWI School of Continuing Studies in St. Augustine. Using the theme "The University Singers of the UWI, Mona Campus – Ambassadors for Caribbean Regional Integration through Choral Theatre", the demonstrations will cover repertoire building, experimentation with arranging, and vocal techniques for different types of music, staging and 'interweaving' technical support to attain excellence in choral theatre.
The workshops will both start at 10:00 a.m. and last for 2 - 2 1/2 hours maximum. The dates and venues are:Friday 11th April, 2008 for Adult and School Choirs from the North & Tobago choirs. The 2nd workshop will be on Saturday 12th April, 2008 at the Auditorium of the School of Continuing Studies on Gordon Street, St. Augustine.
Mona Celebrations:
During the UWI’s 60th Anniversary Convocation Week in July, the University Singers Homecoming Week and Gala Event on July 19 will take place. There will also be two concerts on Thursday and Friday, July 17 and 18 at 8:00 p.m. at the Philip Sherlock Centre for the Creative Arts on the Mona Campus. Homecoming alumni, friends and well-wishers are invited to share the rich feast of choral theatre for which the University Singers have become famous.
