Institutional Research Findings - The UWI Cave Hill New Student Survey

Event Date(s): 10/07/2013

Location: Open Campus Video Conference room, UWI St. Augustine

The University Office of Planning and Development hosts a seminar titled First impressions, early opinions and evidence-based interventions: The UWI Cave Hill Campus New Student Survey, on Wednesday  July 10, 2013 at 10am at the Open Campus Video Conference room, UWI St. Augustine.

The presentation will introduce the institutional research findings from The UWI Cave Hill Campus New Student Survey – an annual online survey administered among first year undergraduate and graduate students at UWI Cave Hill during the first few weeks of the academic year. The process of survey administration and reporting will be reviewed, with a focus on the collaborative approach to developing/adjusting the questionnaire (to ensure that it remains relevant and useful to decision makers in academic and non-academic departments) and on the formatting of the survey reports for ease of use.

The presentation will consider the extent to which the instrument is evolving as a useful decision tool by examining the formal follow-up mechanism in place for reporting on implementation of survey recommendations. It will offer examples of specific adjustments to the information and services provided for new students, as reported by academic and administrative units, as well as anecdotal evidence from members of staff. Staff feedback will also be considered in terms of its impact on the design of the survey instrument itself. Finally, limitations of the instrument as well as opportunities for improving the design and administration of the New Student Survey will be explored.

The presentation will be delivered by Mrs. Koelle Boyce, Quality Assurance Coordinator, Cave Hill Campus Quality Assurance Office. The University community is invited to attend and participate in the discussion following the presentation.

Persons interested in participating remotely are requested to contact the University Office of Planning and Development by July 3rd 2013 for additional details.
