Guest lecture: Sport and the Struggle for Social Justice

Charles P. Korr, Professor Emeritus of the University of Missouri- St. Louis, will deliver a seminar to alumni and the 4th student cohort of the UWI/FIFA/CIES Post Graduate Diploma in Sports Management Programme, on Thursday September 5, 6pm-9pm, at the Learning Resource Centre. Hosted by the Department of Management Studies, Professor Korr’s lecture is “Sport and the Struggle for Social Justice: the Robben Island Experience".

The seminar aims to demonstrate the power of sport to liberate the human mind and change a nation, and to encourage Sports Management students to utilise the skills gained at the UWI/FIFA/CIES Programme to make a positive impact on their local, national and regional landscape.

While the seminar is open primarily to the UWI/FIFA/CIES Diploma Alumni, other sports management students, members of the sporting fraternity and interested members of the public are also welcome to attend.

More about Professor Korr

Professor Korr also holds the position of Visiting Professor in the FIFA International Master in Management, Law and Humanities of Sport. He was the co-producer of the feature film, “More Than Just a Game”, produced for Videovision, South Africa, and co-author of the book, More Than Just a Game: Football v Apartheid, both of which have received wide attention in many countries. The film and book tell the story of football in Robben Island prison and how the political prisoners used the sport to continue the struggle against apartheid.
