UWI SPEC Half Marathon

Event Date(s): 27/10/2013

Location: St. Augustine

The UWI Sport and Physical Education Centre has been hosting its annual half marathon for the past nine (9) years. In 2013, the special 10th edition will be held on October 27th. Starting with a modest number of participants, the race has grown through the decade, capping at 1000 registered runners. This year, 1010 runners will be symbolically welcomed. Traditionally, the race starts at 6am, but this year the race will start at 10 minutes to six.

A specially selected team of 10 persons, called “The 10”, will be engaged to undergo a twelve week training programme. Each team member is matched with a charity. The public, staff, students are encouraged to pledge $10 to a person from “The 10” in support of a charity.

This initiative hopes to not only celebrate a milestone, but also demonstrate a socially responsible stance whilst engaging the community.

You have until October 18th, 2013, to register, or until 1,010 runners have registered. Registration can be done at any First Citizens branch. Local runners ages 15-19 pay $50, while runners ages 20 and over pay $100.
