Lord David Pitt of Hampstead Library Display

The Alma Jordan Library invites you to view a display commemorating the centenary of Lord David Pitt of Hampstead, 1913-1994. 

Born David Pitt in Grenada, he came to Trinidad in the 1940s after studying medicine at Edinburgh University.  He served on the San Fernando Borough Council, 1941-1947 and, in 1943, founded the West Indian National Party.  He later settled in Britain, becoming a Life Peer (Lord Pitt of Hampstead) in 1975.  Lord Pitt was awarded an honourary degree by the UWI in 1975 and the Trinity Cross by the Government of Trinidad and Tobago in 1976. 

The UWI community is invited to view the display on the second floor of the library in West Indiana and Special Collections from 3rd-10th  October 2013.
