The Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) invites you to the symposium “Towards Best Practices in Teaching and Learning: Discourse and Evidence”, on Tuesday 3 and Wednesday December 4, 2013, from 9am–3pm, Room 219, School of Education.

To register, please email Ms. Keisha Reid at cetl@sta.uwi.edu by November 27, 2013.

This year, Celebrating University Teaching is dedicated to teaching staff who have been adopting good or promising teaching practices, thus the theme of this year’s event is Towards Best Practice in Teaching: Discourse and Evidence. The event follows on the heels of two UWI reports on best practices, which were prepared as part of the Vice-Chancellor’s Leadership Challenge Initiative for the Executive Management Team of The UWI.

The event encourages St. Augustine teaching staff, featured in one of the reports, as well as other staff members adopting promising practices, to share their experiences of innovative and effective techniques.

The feature address on Global Best Practices in Higher Education will be delivered by Dr Claudia Harvey, former UNESCO Representative & UWI Best Practices Consultant.

Other presentations and roundtable discussions include:

- Report on UWI Best Practices: Overview and outcomes

- What makes the UWI Postgraduate Certificate in University Teaching and Learning (CUTL) good practice?

- The Agribusiness Society: Fostering continuous learning and development

- What are the hindering and facilitating factors for adopting best practices in teaching and learning at the higher education institutions in the Caribbean?

- Assessing students in large classes: A promising practice

- The Social Work In-House Practicum

- Biochemicians Got Talent: Using multimedia for student assessment

- Using mind maps for the measurement and improvement of learning quality
