Second AgriNeTT Open Data Workshop

Event Date(s): 20/02/2014

Location: Health Economics Unit Auditorium, Warner Street, St. Augustine.

The RDI-funded AgriNeTT Project hosts an Agriculture Open Data Workshop for End Users and Software Developers, on Thursday February 20, 2014, from 8.30am–noon, at the Health Economics Unit Auditorium, Warner Street, St. Augustine.

A follow-up to the workshop held on November 7, 2013, this one is open to institutions or individuals that use agriculture data for research, management and policy making, as well as software development companies, and young entrepreneurs who can build applications on that data. The workshop aims to bring together persons from national and international institutions across Trinidad who are potential data users and application developers.

What to expect

The AgriNeTT Project has built an Open Data repository (http://data.tt) and a site for spatial data (http://maps.tt). Participants will be introduced to the platform and discuss the growing movement globally towards Open Data and Open Access, and also be trained on the use of the Repository.

Local developers will be introduced to the CKan and GeoNode Open Data Platforms, including how to access the data programmatically via APIs.  There will also be an Agriculture Open Data Code Sprint where teams of software developers will develop mobile apps on the data. Other end users, such as researchers, farmers’ groups, and policy makers, will be trained on how the data could be accessed and used.
