On the heels of the just concluded presentation of "TEN” at NAPA, the Daaga Auditorium at The UWI, St. Augustine will explode in a spectacular blend of musical traditions and timbres as the Department of Creative and Festival Arts (DCFA) hosts Music of the Diaspora on Saturday April 19th, 2014, at 7pm.
This collaboration between the UWI Indian Classical Ensemble, The UWI Afro Caribbean Drumming Ensemble and the Intermediate Steel Ensemble will explore a range of musical themes derived from Bollywood, Indian classical music traditions, Indian folk music and world music from Japan, Spain, Africa and a repertoire of local compositions.
Students of the UWI Music programmes will perform on Western and Indian musical instruments in small to medium-sized ensembles. Likewise, the UWI Intermediate Pan Ensemble brings an intriguing blend of selections to the concert, including feature performances from by Khari Codrington and Adrian Jaikaran.
Other selections of music from Andre Tanker, The Mighty Sniper, The Mighty Sparrow and Rudy Wells also make this a unique and dynamic concert.
Tickets are priced at $50 general admission and $30 for students and children under the age of 12, and are available at the DCFA, Gordon Street, St. Augustine.
