HSU observes World Diabetes Day

Location: HSU Unit, UWI St. Augustine Campus


The Health and Services Unit (HSU) observes World Diabetes Day with a day filled with Diabetes-related activities.

The event takes place from noon to 3pm

Participants can look out for an Educational booth about diabetes mellitus, types of diabetes, risk factors, hypo/hyperglycaemia signs and symptoms, organs affected by diabetes, normal vs. abnormal blood glucose levels, Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) and more.

There will also be the chance to do the following:

  • Kidney Selfie (insert your head in a life-sized replica of a human kidney cutout)
  • Foot care demonstrations to teach diabetics how to practice good foot hygiene)
  • Free BMI and blood glucose testing
  • Cooking demonstrations of health diabetic-friendly economical meals and snacks
  • Sugar Shakers – Demonstrations of how much sugar is in a typical beverage, e.g. juice, soft-drink and more.
