November 25 | All Day | Orange Cyber Space – Staff and students are invited to #orangetheworld by joining in a discussion about the challenges and solutions to end violence against women and girls on The UWI Student Guild Facebook Page.

November 26 | 2.30pm | Campus Orange Zone – A space outside of the Student Activities Centre (SAC) will be decorated in orange to raise awareness for the Day. Participants are asked to wear orange and join in on a walk to spread the message throughout campus, starting in front the HSU Office.

Remember the key messages from the United Nations concerning ending Gender-Based Violence against Women and Girls:

  • Violence against women is a human rights violation
  • Violence against women is a consequence of discrimination against women, in law and also in practice, and of persisting inequalities between men and women
  • Violence against women impacts on, and impedes, progress in many areas, including poverty eradication, combating HIV/AIDS, and peace and security
  • Violence against women and girls is not inevitable. Prevention is possible and essential
  • Violence against women continues to be a global pandemic
