The Department of Computing and Information Technology (DCIT) presents the first PhD Research Seminar by Mr. Kyle De Freitas on the topic, An Architecture for Educational Data Mining Analysis.
The Seminar will take place at 1pm.
ABSTRACT:
Educational Data Mining (EDM) focuses on tools and techniques for discovering previously unknown patterns in data generated by the educational process. Despite the proven benefit of Data Mining (DM) analysis in other industries, integrating DM analysis within education has proven elusive due to complex tools and low knowledge about statistical and DM methods. In this seminar, an architecture for developing an educational data mining environment that caters for educators and provides an extensible structure for future data mining analysis, will be presented. It would also highlight a comparative analysis of clustering techniques used for finding trends within the log data of a Moodle LMS.
