About Higher Education in Germany

Higher Education in Germany stands for innovation, internationality and high-calibre research. Internationally recognized system of bachelor, master and doctoral degrees has been widely introduced. Many of the courses are designed particularly for international students and taught in English.

Germany has more than 2 million students in total, nearly 12% of them from abroad. Most of these foreign students come from China, Eastern Europe or Western Europe. 376 universities, universities of applied science, colleges of art, music, theology or public administration offer a huge choice of disciplines and programmes. More than 1000 international programmes are run in English.

The most important organization to contact for help with organizing and funding a period of study or research in Germany is the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). It is the world’s largest international academic exchange organization. It yearly awards some 40,000 scholarships to students and graduates from abroad to study or do research in Germany.
