Symposium on the State of the Economy - Return of the Downturn in the Caribbean

The Office of the Campus Principal in collaboration with the Sir Arthur Lewis Institute of Social and Economic Studies (SALISES) presents a Symposium on the State of the Economy – Return of the Downturn in the Caribbean: Sustaining Hope and Economic Recovery.

This takes place from 9.30am to 3pm.

This event is free and open to the public however seats are limited so interested persons are asked to RSVP by emailing Ms. Cathy-Ann Modeste at cathy-ann.modeste@sta.uwi.edu.

The Symposium opens with an address by Marla Dukharan and continues with the following panels (approximately 1 hr and 15 mins):

  • Sustainable production - where are we and how to adjust?  –  Moderated by Prof. Compton Bourne with panelists Dr. Ronald Ramkissoon; Dr. Rolph Balgobin; Mr. David Abdullah; General Secretary OWTU and Dr. Ralph Henry.
  • Crime and security- where are we and how to recover?  –  Moderated by Prof. Ramesh Deosaran with Prof. Ann Marie Bissessar, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences; Dr. Roger Hosein and Dr. Winston Moore, UWI Cave Hill joining via Skype.
  • Governance - assessing our current reality  –  Featuring Mr. Derek Murray, Transparency International; Sunity Maharaj; Reginald Armour (LATT) and Dr. Axel Kravatazky, Chairman Caribbean Corporate Governance Institute (CCGI).
