The UWI Network and Outreach for Disability Education and Sensitisation (NODES) presents the NODES One-Day Symposium with the theme, Rights and Activism in the wake of the Ratification of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
The symposium takes place from 9.30am to 3.30pm.
About NODES
In 2015 Trinidad and Tobago ratified the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. The ratification instrument was deposited on 25 July 2015 to the United Nations Headquarters. This move shows Trinidad and Tobago’s commitment to ensuring that persons with disabilities in our country are afforded all of the rights which flow from this binding legal instrument.
The symposium will focus attention on the necessary steps for the implementation of the convention and a document listing recommendations will be submitted after the symposium. The feature speaker will be Independent Senator Paul Richards.
NODES was established by UWI lecturers in 2014 to create a network and a platform for discussion and action on matters pertaining to disability in our society.
