The UWI Film Programme as a part of the celebration of its 10th anniversary celebrations presents its inaugural World Festival of Emerging Cinema (WOFEC). The Festival’s mission is to help prepare future filmmakers as an internationally mobile workforce collaborating with their counterparts from around the world.
WOFEC opens Thursday May 19 and runs until Sunday May 22.
Admission is free and open to the public.
About WOFEC:
The festival received 691 submissions from 76 countries including Albania, Angola, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Congo, Croatia, Estonia, Ethiopia, Haiti, Iceland, Iran, Iraq, Kosovo, Lebanon, Luxemburg, Morocco, Palestine, Philippines, Reunion Romania, Serbia, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Africa, Syria, Taiwan, Tanzania, Thailand, Turkey and Ukraine. Among the submissions were three animated features, 54 animated shorts, 80 documentary features, one hundred and 124 documentary shorts, 40 narrative features and 390 narrative shorts.
From these submissions 192 films have been selected from 52 countries.
Festival founder and coordinator of The UWI Film Programme Yao Ramesar promises “A virtual trip around the world over. And the journey is free to boot!”
