The UWI St. Augustine Portuguese and Brazilian Studies Section, Department of Modern Languages and Linguistics, in conjunction with the Department of Creative and Festival Arts (DCFA) and under the auspices of the Embassy of Brazil presents the fundraiser A Alma Brasileira – The Brazilian Soul: A musical celebration of the Independence of Brazil and 100 years of samba.
The event takes place at 6.30pm at the Central Bank Auditorium, Port-of-Spain.
A host of veteran and upcoming artistes will come together to create a musical extravaganza. For the first time, Trinidadians will pay special tribute to Brazil's 194th independence and commemorate 100 years since the first recorded samba song in 1916. Experience samba classics interpreted through featured soloists such as Candice Alcantara, Devon Seale, Gerelle Forbes, Heather Macintosh and Marlon de Bique. They will be joined by a live band led by Musical Director Khion De Las as well as guest musicians Anthony Woodroffe Jr and Marcus Santos on the Pandeiro from Bahia, Brazil. The spirit of samba continues with dances done by Wilson & Co. Dance Troupe.
