School of Pharmacy Symposium: Biological Medicines and their Biosimilars

The School of Pharmacy continues its Symposium Series with guest speaker Professor Francisco Antonio Donadio Velarde, Product Patrimony Manager at Sanofi Laboratory, Republic of Panama. Professor Velarde will be speaking on the topic, Biological Medicines and their biosimilars: The importance of a regulatory framework to protect the clinical setting.

The symposium takes place at noon. All are invited.

  • Highlights of the structural features and manufacturing processes of biological medicines, biosimilars and their main differences with chemically synthetized medicines
  • Scientific aspects of immunogenicity/impurities and poor testing to define them
  • Immunogenicity: how ADA may affect the course of the treatment and patient’s safety
  • The risk of recommending interchangeability of a biosimilar with its referenced drug without appropriate trials
  • When and where to correctly apply the biosimilar concept
  • How biosimilarity is seen in worldwide reference regulatory agencies (FDA & EMA)
