Department of Behavioural Sciences Social Work Unit hosts Symposium: Living with Incarceration

The Department of Behavioural Sciences’ Social Work Unit is collaborating with the International Coalition on Children of Incarcerated Parents (INCCIP) to host a Two-Day Symposium titled, Living with Incarceration.

The Symposium opens on January 11 with a keynote address by Professor Adele Jones of the University of Huddersfield, UK, former lead of the COPING project in the EU on the topic, Psychological Needs of Children of Incarcerated Parents from 9 to 11am at the Faculty of Social Sciences (FSS) Lounge. All are invited and there is no cost, however space is limited.

The symposium takes place January 11 to 12 from 8am to 4pm.  

About the Symposium

The symposium will address the needs of children and families of incarcerated persons, and exploring options for implementing best practices to facilitate consistent interaction between inmates and their children and families. The symposium will bring together stakeholders and activists in the private and public sectors and faith-based organisations to explore experiences needs and concerns of children and families and other professionals including Prison personnel. The symposium will also include families of incarcerated person who will be invited to share their stories to deepen understanding of lived experiences.
