SPEC Indoor Hockey Tournament

The UWI Sport and Physical Education Centre (SPECP hots an Indoor Hockey Tournament to take local men’s and women’s hockey to the next level.

Top local teams battle for the championship from April 20 to 22 at SPEC indoor court. The schedule is as follows: 

  • Friday April 20 | 6 to 10pm
  • Saturday April 21 | 9am to 10pm
  • Sunday April 22 | 10am to 6pm

All are invited. Admission is as follows:

  • Friday April 20 | $10
  • Saturday April 21 | $10
  • Sunday April 22 | $20

Players to watch:

Mickell Pierre – He plays for his club Defence Force and has represented Trinidad and Tobago internationally at the Commonwealth Games, Pan American Games and Pan American Cup. Player of the Year”, Trinidad and Tobago Hockey Board (TTHB), 2013.

Marcus James – Plays for his club Defence Force and represented Trinidad and Tobago at the recently concluded Indoor Hockey World Cup which was held in Berlin, Germany. He team that won its first ever game in a world cup, beating Kazakhstan, Commonwealth Games.

Akim Toussaint – Plays for his club team Paragon, also represents the national hockey team. He scored two goals which lead T&T “Calypso Stickmen” to a come-from-behind victory over Barbados in the Indoor Pan American Cup Men’s Tournament at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall in Guyana. Akim is an attacking midfielder/striker who has over 104 caps for Trinidad and Tobago. Akim is a fast and dynamic player who is a proven goal scorer. Akim has also played abroad for Gladbacher Hockey Club in the German Bundesliga and with English National League Premier Division club Canterbury. Also captained the national team at the 2017 Pan American Cup.

Kristien Emmanuel - scored one of the goals when the national team defeated Kazakhstan at the Indoor Hockey World Cup. Kristien has represented the national team in over thirty-three (33) games. Kristien plays for club Malvern.

Kieron Emmanuel – In 2016 he was selected to represent the national team at the Pan American Junior Championship, Toronto Canada.  He also plays for Malvern and is the brother of Kristien.

Aidan De Gannes – Represented the national team at Pan American Cup, Brampton, Toronto, Canada, FIH World League, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Junior Pan American Games, Guadalajara, Mexico. The club he plays for is Queens Park.

Jordan Viera – A former UWI student was named the Most Valuable Players by the Trinidad and Tobago Hockey Board (TTHB) in 2017. Jordon was nominated by First Citizens Bank (FCB) Nominee for Senior Male Athlete for the Sport of Hockey. T&T Under-21 men’s hockey team at the 2016 Junior Pan American Hockey Championship, 2017 Indoor Pan American Cups. The club he plays for is Fatima.

Andrew Viera – Represented the national team at Pan American Junior Under-21 Hockey Championship, FIH Indoor Hockey World Cup. Andrew is a former UWI Student that represented the university at UWI Games. The club he plays for is Fatima.

Jordan Reynos – Jordan has been a regular representative of the Trinidad and Tobago Senior Hockey Team, consistently representing the country in over 30 plus games. He was part of the Trinidad and Tobago team that was victorious at Indoor Pan America Cup in which the team placed 1st and went unbeaten. He was selected on the team that participated at the FIH Indoor Hockey World Cup held in Berlin Germany. He captained the UWI male hockey team at 2017 UWI Games held in Cave Hill Barbados.
