DCFA and MCS Productions Presents West Side Story

The Department of Creative of Festival Arts and Must Come See (MCS) Productions present the classic Broadway musical – West Side Story under the direction of DCFA Lecturer and Coordinator, Louis Mc Williams with musical direction by Head of DCFA, Jessel Murray.

The play runs from June 21 to 24 at Queen’s Hall. Performances and prices are as follows:  

  • Thursday June 21: 7pm | Cost: $250
  • Friday June 22: 7.30pm | Cost: $250
  • Saturday June 23: 7.30pm | Cost: $300
  • Sunday June 24: Matinée at 2pm, Cost: $250 | Evening performance: 7pm, Cost: $300

  • Seniors (60+) Special | 10% off the regular price only (must present ID)
  • Early Bird Special | June 7 to 17 – 2 tickets at $225 (for $250 shows: Thu 7pm, Fri & Sun 2pm) and 2 tickets at $250 (for $300 shows: Sat & Sun 7pm)

From June 18 onwards

  • UWI Staff Special | 10% off the regular price; one ticket per ID (must present ID)
  • Group Special | 5 tickets or more gets 10% off the regular price

About West Side Story

A musical in which a modern day Romeo and Juliet are involved in New York street gangs. On the harsh streets of the upper west side, two gangs battle for control of the turf. The situation becomes complicated when a gang members falls in love with a rival's sister. 

About the West Side Story Cast

Maria is played by Zayna McDonald (Belle in The Scrooge), and Tony by Kyle Richardson (Jesus in Jesus Christ Superstar); Kyle was recently the tenor soloist in the UWI Arts Chorale performance of Carmina Burana at NAPA. Other talented and experienced actors include Michailean Taylor as Riff (Zangler in Crazy for You) newcomer Albert Smith as BernardoSyntyche Bishop of NTAC as Anita, and Chris Smith (King Herod in The Nativity Live) rounds out the impressive cast as Doc.

About West Side Story Crew

West Side Story is directed by Louis Mc Williams, Lecturer and Coordinator of Theatre Arts at the DCFA; he is also artistic director of the award winning Malick Folk Performing Company. UWI Senior Lecturer and DCFA Head Jessel Murray is the music director as well as the conductor of the band. Sally Crawford-Shepherd, the Coordinator of Dance at the DCFA, is the choreographer, and Dara Jordan-Brown is the scenic designer. The veteran team of Donna-Marie Bertrand and Asha Stewart will stage manage the production.
