About these events
Relations between the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) group of countries and the European Union (EU) go back to 1975 when the first Lomé Convention was signed. Successive partnership agreements (Lome ii, III, IV and the Cotonou Agreement) have shaped the relationship up to the present time.
The Cotonou Agreement, signed in 2000 was concluded for a twenty-year period and will expire in February 2020. Negotiations were launched on 28 September, 2018 for a new framework for ACP – EU relations, post 2020. Representing over 1.5 billion people, the EU and ACP countries seek to reinvigorate their relationship taking into account the current global context.
The IIR hosts a seminar to discuss the state of play of the ACP - EU negotiations, Caribbean Interests in these negotiations and the potential Impact of BREXIT on the post Cotonou Framework. The IIR will also launch the publication, The ACP Group and the EU Development Partnership Beyond the North-South Debate, edited by Annita Montoute and Kudrat Virk.
