History Fest 2019 - Launch and Lecture on the 100th Anniversary of the 1919 Protests

The Department of History presents History Fest 2019 under the theme, Sports, Resistance and Nationalism. Events take place from February 11 to 15 and are free and open to the public. 

The schedule is as follows:  

Monday, February 1110.30am to noon | Audio Visual Room, 3rd Floor of The Alma Jordan Library (AJL):

  • Official History Fest Launch
  • Lecture: The 100th Anniversary of 1919 Protests with Professor Kelvin Singh.

Wednesday February 13 | 10.30am to noon | | Audio Visual Room, 3rd Floor of The Alma Jordan Library (AJL):

  • Lecture: Commemorating the 150th Anniversary of Mohandas Gandhi’s Birth with Professor Brinsley Samaroo

Thursday, February 14:

  • 10.30am to noon | Panel Discussion: Cricket and the West Indies – Panelists: Deryck Murray, Bryan Davis and Philo Wallace, former West Indies team cricketers at the Audio Visual Room, 3rd Floor of The Alma Jordan Library (AJL).
  • 1.30 to 3.30pm | Film Screening: Fire in Babylon at the 3rd Floor of The Alma Jordan Library (AJL).
  • 1 to 4pm | The History Society’s Tour of the Queen’s Park Cricket Club Museum at Queen’s Park Cricket Club, Port of Spain.

Friday, February 15:

  • 9am to 10.30am Joint Book Launch: “The Historical Dictionary of Trinidad and Tobago” by Rita Pemberton, Debbie McCollin, Gelien Matthews and Michael Toussaint and “The Church of the Nazarene in Four of the Windward Islands” written by Gelien Matthews at the at 3rd Floor of The Alma Jordan Library (AJL).
  • 2 to 4pm | Cricket Competition: History Hitters (Staff) vs. History Students Cricket Ground near Main Administration Building.
