Dept. of Management Studies Hosts: Public Lecture on Women's Football in the Caribbean

The Department of Management Studies hosts a Public Lecture on Women’s Football in the Caribbean – Creating Pathways for Access and Opportunities featuring Malaika Church, Project Coordinator, FIFA Regional Office, Barbados.

The lecture takes place on May 25 from 2pm at Lecture Room 2, Learning Resource Centre (LRC).

About Malaika Church

Born to a Trinidadian mother and a Grenadian father, Malaika Church carries dual nationalities with pride. She has a Bachelor’s degree in with honors in Communications from Howard University as well as a Master’s degree from the Communications University of China in International Communications with a specialization in Sports Production.

Church started off her career at the Grenada Broadcasting Network (GBN) (part of the One Caribbean Network Group), as a Sports Producer. During that time she also volunteered at the local Grenada Football Association (GFA) as their Media Officer as well as lectured in the area of Media Studies at T.A Marryshow Community College.

Thereafter, Malaika became the Grenada Football Association’s first Women’s Development Officer. She was then thrust into the role of interim General Secretary of the Association which signaled a greater focus on Women’s Football on the island. The Association then took on the challenge to host the CONCACAF Women’s Under 17 Championship in 2016. It was the first time the Association would have endeavoured to host a tournament of such magnitude. During that period, Church was selected as one of 35 women from the CONCACAF region to participate in FIFA’s Female Leadership Development Programme. Church resigned from the GFA after the successful hosting of the U17 Championship and began working for FIFA Development Zurich AG in 2017.

Presently living in Barbados, Church is one of three persons who work at the FIFA Regional Office in Barbados and is responsible for thirteen (13) Member Associations (MAs) in the Caribbean region.
